Askari is the latest and most advanced custom Assegai to come from Barry Martin’s shed on the Gold Coast.
The Assegai hull form has become synonymous with fishing and charter operations out of Cairns. Assegai’s are renown for their speed, sea keeping qualities and soft, dry ride in the punishing trade wind conditions outside the Ribbon Reefs.
Her strength is derived from her female molded Western Red Cedar strip plank construction. This technique requires skill and is labour intensive but provides the lightest and strongest hull required for constant offshore work. A unique design feature is the convex and slightly raised transom which means she can back down hard in rough sea safely. She is fitted out with state of the art electronics and equipment including sonar, watermakes, icemakers, livebait tanks, tuna tubes, twin Gensets, disco lights and 1015hp Caterpillar C18′s.

The Brisbane Sport Fishing Adventure Club is a small exclusive sport fishing club, whose members have access to the club boat Megumi and target blue marlin on the continental shelf off SE Qld and little black marlin and sailfish closer inshore.
