A bit more information from Capt. Ian “Wobbles” Ford on Hot Shot who found the late striped marlin bite off Bateman’s Bay this week. They are finding the fish from Tuross heads up to just north of Bateman’s Bay with plenty of bait balls with multiple fish on them and also fish coming up on the teasers hot to trot . Better late than never!

Wobbles says that for the last three weeks there has also been a good run of nice yellow in the 40 to 80 kg range with stacks of albacore mixed in with them. The bluefin are also just around the corner with the long liners getting great captures off Eden. Guys targeting the broadbill are getting there share off bites as well with a nice ones caught out of Narooma at 148kg and one down at Eden of 77kg and a few more lost.

Over all the fishing is great down that way at the moment!

Also a quick report from David Cox who found a little black marlin yesterday a few miles north of Cape Capricorn (Curtis Island, Gladstone). The fish measured just 110cm and was tagged and released on a 4 1/4″ Williamson dorado pusher and was the first marlin for angler Brendon Lawn.

I’m traveling on the boat out of phone range for the next few days. See you on the other side!

bigblueMany of you will have seen the story and photos floating around on the web of the giant blue marlin that was found washed up on the coast of WA this week.  Courtesy of Lizard Island’s Ross Penegar, via WA Fisheries, a little more information for you about this amazing fish. The fish weighed in at 540kg (almost 1200lbs) and measured 4.4m (total length). It washed up on Little Beach at Two Peoples Bay which is right down on almost the southern-most tip of WA.

The head has been donated to the WA museum and full measurements and DNA samples were taken by Western Aus fisheries.

As we all know, a grander blue marlin has yet to be *officially* caught in Australian waters as yet, although there have been a couple close (as well as this one over). Although its a shame the fish died and washed up (according to reports, there was no visable damage on the fish, the damage you see in the photo around the mouth area was caused when getting it onto the trailer) we can live in hope that one day soon a grander blue will be caught!

Fish Feeding Frenzy

Fresh on the heels of yesterday’s striped marlin report from Bateman’s Bay, Al McGlashan send me this video of a recent trip off the bay. One of the craziest feeding frenzies with dolphins, seals and sharks smashing up poor old helpless baitfish! Awesome footage as always!

Quick report in from Capt. Ian “Wobbles” Ford on Hot Shot who with son Dean on deck put his anglers onto a great bite off Bateman’s Bay yesterday. They ended up 5 from 6 on striped marlin in just 2 and half hours fishing.  Wobbles said all of the fish came off bait balls and there were plenty of fish free feeding around them.

They are out there again today so hopefully they find the fish again!

sail_kamikaze

On Wednesday night after the State of Origin Heath Irvine, Jay Graham, Shaun Battye and Lachlan Tuckwell headed to Fraser Island onboard Kamikaze (the 33foot O’Brien) from Sunshine Coast. On Day 1 they began with some heavy tackle fishing and got a little 50lb black on 50. After that they headed into the light tackle grounds and scored a sail in the afternoon ending up 2-2-2 for the day.

On Day 2 they got another 2 sails (including the one in the picture) plus a smaller black at 5kg and missed 5 finicky bites from blacks finishing up 10-5-5 on billfish for the trip.
